[Pos 4&5 Image Guide] - Counter-Flanking while pushing towers

Hey guys, xuisoko here,

I've noticed that many support players especially in the divine, and lower immortal bracket struggle to position themselves in the right spot when pushing towers.

Watch the video here - https://youtu.be/eqixgNKUYIc

One of the few ways a team behind in gold and XP can defend a T2 Tower is by FLANKING your team and going on the back lines.

This can happen if they somehow get on the high ground near the tower and take the battle there with superior vision. Usually a weaker team shouldn't be allowed to do that. And it's the supports job to prevent it, this is how:

1. You are playing Dire

1.1 And you're pushing T2 Radiant safelane

You must absolutely restrict access to this are for enemies:

In order to do that, you must first:

  1. Have vision of the area.
  2. Make sure enemies don't have vision.
  3. HIDE IN A NEARBY TREE, 1 blink away from potential enemies, and potential allies at the same time.

This is the best spot you can hide aggressively on the T2 Safelane Radiant tower when you are pushing it as Dire:

Aggressive hiding spot for counterflanking at T2 bot when pushing as Dire

But before you hide there, you must 100% deward this cliff and area:

This are should be dewarded when pushing T2 Bottom as Dire

Because otherwise enemies will have vision of you both going into the trees and flying vision over the trees and see you. You would simply feed the enemies and they will successfully flank your team and defend the tower.

1.2 When Pushing T2 Offlane Radiant tower

  1. Make sure there is no vision over this cliff:

Deward this cliff 100% of the time when you push t2 top. Otherwise it has flying vision over the trees.

The reason for that is the superior vision over these trees here .

Where you should hide when counterflanking. (In these trees.)

  1. You want to be able to hide in these trees and protect the flank.

While you do so, also make sure you have vision of the highground next to you. This is basically a pre-requisite require for all COUNTERFLANKING a support does.

  1. HAVE VISION OF THE AREA!!!!

An example of a good ward to counterflank this area when pushing T2 Top as Dire.

2. You are playing Radiant

The best place to counterflank the highground on T2 Bot lane when pushing as Radiant.

The reason for this location is simple.
1. there are no high ground flying vision wards that can reveal you here.

  1. If you place a proper ward outside, near the bounty rune, you will have vision of enemies, and they will not have vision of you.

  2. You can reach it without dewarding if you have blink.

  3. You are close enough to blink toward the enemy T2 tower while your allies push, while you still defend their flank (look below.

Blink range demonstrated in the area.

If you don't have blink, you can still counterflank here, but make sure you deward the cliff first, because it reveals the first 4 trees if there is an observer on the cliff.

2.2 Pushing T2 Top dire tower as radiant.

A good spot to counterflank, only if you have dewarded the cliff and area.

If you don't deward this location, don't go anywhere near this highground. If you can't deward it safely, don't.

Simply place a ward at the edge near the t2 tower.

A good ward to counterflank enemies that want to defend T2 tower Dire top.

This area below is the best location to stand and coutnerflank as a support while pushing T2 top as Radiant.

Hide between trees, and make sure you have vision of both sides. (That can be done by placiong a HG ward on the cliff)

Yes, cliff wards will get dewarded. But a cliff ward like this one:

This cliff ward will make sure you don't get flanked during the T2 push, because you see both possible routes for enemies to come through, and by staying the location I showed you, you can counter their movement.

3. What's the point?

Positioning yourself like that, with vision of potential enemy routes (Given by a good Observer placement), and while you are hidden in the trees nearby you get insane benefits like:

  • You are 1 blink away from saving allies,
  • You are within cast range of spells of enemies, if they flank.
  • You are 1 blink away from enemies if they don't flank (And defend tower by being under tower.)
  • If enemies flank and jump on the back lines, you will end up behind them, and actually can take down their backlines.

Basically, if you manage to:

  1. Ensure they have no vision there,
  2. Ensure you have vision on a possible flank route
  3. ANd Hide within range,

You will ensure that they have no way of defending the tower.

Hope you liked the guide,
GL&HF, xuisoko
