When the Auto Chess mod came out in early 2019, it rose the game's popularity by a huge amount. So many popular streamers on Twitch were playing it, even though they'd never even played Dota 2 before.
It seems like Atomic War could be that next game mode. It's removed so many annoying/cumbersome aspects of Auto Chess but still has a great level of complexity and depth to it. Arguably, the one thing that might deter outside players from trying it is that it requires a great deal of game knowledge.
Regardless, been enjoying watching SingSing stream it over the past few weeks. He's totally addicted to it lol.
